Humane Snake Trapping and Relocation Services
Not every snake encounter is an emergency, but that doesn’t make it any less stressful. Whether a large black racer has taken up residence in your garden shed, a garter snake colony is thriving in your retaining wall, or you keep spotting the same king snake sunning itself on your driveway — you deserve a solution that actually works. K9 H2O provides professional humane snake trapping and relocation that removes snakes safely and relocates them to appropriate natural habitat.
Why Humane Relocation Works Better Than Killing
Killing a snake on your property creates a vacancy in the local ecosystem. The rodent population that snake was managing? Still there — and without a predator keeping it in check, it grows. A larger rodent population attracts new snakes. This is the cycle property owners get stuck in when they rely on lethal methods: kill the snake, rodents multiply, new snake moves in, repeat.
Humane relocation paired with proper exclusion work breaks that cycle. We remove the snake, address the habitat conditions that attracted it, seal entry points, and reduce food sources.
Our Trapping Methods
K9 H2O uses multiple humane trapping approaches depending on the species, location, and property layout. For visible, accessible snakes, we use professional snake tongs and hook capture — the snake is gently secured and immediately placed in a ventilated transport container. For hiding or nocturnal snakes, we deploy minnow-trap style live capture traps baited along known travel routes. These traps allow the snake to enter but not exit, and we check them on a 24-hour cycle.
We never use glue boards. Glue traps cause severe injuries to snakes — skin tears, scale damage, dehydration, and prolonged stress — and they also catch non-target animals like lizards, frogs, and songbirds. There are better methods available, and we use them exclusively.
Where We Relocate Snakes
Every snake we capture is relocated to pre-scouted release sites at least five miles from the capture location. These sites are selected for appropriate habitat — adequate cover, water access, prey availability, and distance from residential development. For venomous species, our venomous snake removal protocol includes additional safety measures during transport and release.
