NoahNoah was a four year old yellow lab that was found wandering East Vancouver in early May 2006 with no collar and barely able to walk. He weighed 176 pounds when rescued by the good people at the Vancouver Animal Shelter. Kendall heard about him 2 weeks later and offered to foster him and swim him for exercise and weight reduction. Noah weighed 166 pounds and was medicated for a thyroid condition.
He was a happy, quiet, well behaved dog who loved to swim! He got along beautifully with the other pets in the house and became best friends with her standard poodle Bear. Over the next 8 months Noah had increased his endurance and gradually lost all the weight dropping to a healthy 88 pounds.
Sadly, in early December 2008 Noah had emergency surgery on his spleen and the biopsy showed cancer. He underwent rounds of chemotherapy at the Mission Vet Hospital but sadly lost his battle with cancer some months later. Thanks to Kendall for giving this delightful boy a fantastic home in his final years.
Monies ensure animals in need, in shelters or foster care have access to aqua therapy.
These dogs from shelters have had the chance to heal through Noah's Fund:
Diagnosed with hypertrophic osteodystrophy at 3 months, for which the main treatment is several months of crate rest and restricted, onleash activity, Kasper needed an outlet for his pent-up energy and to prevent frustration and anxiety. His veterinarian agreed that swimming would provide safe non-impact exercise and his foster mom reports that it has a calming effect, ensuring he sleeps through the night, and it should help keep his muscles toned so he can begin normal puppy activities in another month or so.
I'm Fisher. I'm 4 and I live life large. I have boundless energy and want to run and play but I can't because I had cruciate surgery in October and I still hurt. I am lacking muscle tone and have arthritis. While I was at LAPS waiting for my forever home, K9 H20 donated swimming therapy to me and I now have a new sport. I LOVE swimming. Second to lying in my new parents' laps for snuggles, swimming in the ultimate! I swim hard for the whole time and collect multiple toys. So far I can fit 5 in my mouth. Since going swimming I can now walk without limping and have even started to trot. My muscle tone is coming along and I'm a very happy and very tired dog now. Thank you Canine H20 for helping me with my therapy.
(Black Lab/Rottie ) through swimming Suzy has lost weight. She weighed 147 lbs and will reach her goal weight of 85 lbs. She was too heavy to walk. The only exercise she could do was swim. Suzy reached her ideal weight and now is happily living with her new family on a farm in Dewdney.
(Boston Terrier/ Pug) Indy need an operation to remove her hip bone. She limped badly and only walked on 3 legs. Through donated swim sessions from Noah's Fund, Indy now walks on 4 legs and has been adopted into a family.
